Vice Chancellor Bhola Thapa resigned on January 6. A few weeks before that, a three-member selection committee was formed under the chairmanship of Suresh Raj Sharma.
The said committee has made procedures, advertised, selected 10 people out of the 20 applications received, and also conducted presentations and interviews of all of them on February 2 and 3.
Usually, after all the work is done on February 3, the names of three people should be recommended on the basis of 'merit' by the evening of the same day or the next day if possible, but even after 11 days have passed today, why the announcement has been delayed, I could not understand.
Sureshraj Sharma is the founding vice-chancellor and after his exit, he has become the main character in the process of choosing the vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University.
In the meantime, while talking to various media, he has said that the basis of 'merit' is not enough, he must also be able to run the university. His argument is, "Kathmandu University has the responsibility to maintain the university by earning itself."
but it also seems likely to have complicated legal aspects. First of all, why couldn't he do this within the procedures he himself made as a coordinator? No additional index has been made to test the ability to run the university within the 100 points set by the procedure.
Similarly, the fact that most of those selected in the first list are individuals who have invested their time and effort in Kathmandu University has also been overshadowed by the sentiments expressed by him now. This has hurt the sentiments of the candidates.
If the coordinator had taken the stand he is taking now when the selection committee was formed, this problem would not have arisen. Even if it had been taken care of while making the procedure, this bubble would not have been created. Coordinator Sureshraj Sharma has clearly said that, '3 members of the committee have different opinions, so they could not reach a consensus.' Did not an enlightened person like him devalue the procedure he had made and the basis of 'merit'?
Let's not argue anymore. Let's not break the 'merit' list on the basis that it has been prepared through a process. If this happens, there is a possibility that the development of the university will be blocked.
The reason why the name has not been recommended until now is whether the Minister of Education and the Prime Minister have the right to demand it? Either dissolve this committee and form another selection committee, or else let's publish the prepared 'merit list'.
