According to the government data, 21 billion rupees were spent for the management of Maoist fighters after the comprehensive peace agreement was signed in 2063. However, clear details of where and how this huge amount was spent have not been made public yet.
Doubts have been raised about the reported numbers of combatants in camps, there have been widespread irregularities in the adjustment process, and the combatants who have returned on relief are now grappling with unemployment and other crises. The
combat adjustment process became an extreme example of political opportunism. The Maoist leadership seized power by selling the sacrifices of its fighters, but when it came to holding on to power, threw its own comrades on the streets. Some leaders are enjoying multi-crore houses, cars and luxurious life, but the workers who fought for them with guns are today in the grip of poverty. Corruption in the name of adjustment has made the game of power and money more obvious. The peace process should be transparent, but here irregularities were seen in all aspects from combatant management to relief distribution. Somewhere the number of fighters said to be in the camp was fake, somewhere someone misappropriated the money going to their account. No one wants to talk about 21 billion. Where are the documents? Whose responsibility is it? Will these pages of corruption never be opened? If this money had been properly spent, the combatants would not be unemployed now, their rehabilitation would have been organized and the transitional justice process would have moved forward. However, now the situation is reversed. Who dares to answer this question? Did the comrades only want power or justice?
The ruling leaders are still doing political business in the name of revolution but the people are slowly waking up. 21 billion will be accounted for, then another page of corruption will be opened. And those who talk of a true revolution will be hard to answer.
