There is a deep gap of inequality in Nepal's justice system. Imprisoning the poor who cannot pay the bail amount of 30,000 in the darkness of the jail is a synonym of inequality and injustice.
This shows that the legal body of the state has given more legal force to the discrimination between the rich and the poor. The painful inequality of not only court decisions, but also of the entire government structure is evident, where the voice of ordinary citizens cannot get justice, while the powerful and wealthy are easily shunned.
If someone has to suffer the rigors of prison because he could not pay 30,000 bail, does it not expose the inequality of our society? Are we in society favoring only those with money? Why have we denied civil rights and legal rights? This incident forces us to ask what is the standard of equal opportunity and justice for all citizens of our society? If a citizen is punished because of poor economic status, it is a shame for the society. It is the responsibility of all of us to change the structure of society, to incite our legal bodies to act on the basis of truth and justice. There shall be no discrimination in the legal rights of any citizen. We must raise a strong voice to end this inequality, which brings justice to the poor and the good citizens. If we all should have equal rights, then the state agencies also need to take strict action against inequality and injustice.
