We want to get rid of birta land

I was very happy to read the interview of land rights activist Jagat Deuja in the Sunday issue of Kantipur daily.

He has really sacrificed, struggled and contributed a lot for Nepal's land rights campaign. In a way, his entire life has been spent in this. In the interview, he explained the problem and its solution in detail. However, the pain caused by Birta to the farmers is great. For Birta solution, we have asked several times from local to federal government parliamentarians and ministers and even the prime minister, but what is the solution? Our house is on vacation. Our land is vacant. Our livelihood is at stake. Our lives will pass in this space, because many generations of us have passed away in this way. We farmers have to suffer such injustice and oppression. We believe that this interview will definitely draw the attention of the government people at the policy level to solve the problem.

Birta, which has been shaken by the problem, we farmers are getting energy again. In Kantipur, land expert Jagat Deuja said, 'The land belongs to the farmer, it should be given to the farmer.' Yes, this is what the government should do. Our farmers' forefathers made it possible to produce grain by plowing bhir, pakha, pakhera, bushes. The land created in this way was also measured by the relatives of the king of that time and the Ranas in their own name and took the parts. Some of us still live on the same land. When asking for spare parts, the government does not give them. Our people's representatives keep saying 'we don't have legal rights'. Now, we have neither the money nor the time to go to the federal government forever.

Out of 700 households in our ward, more than 600 are still suffering. Such a steep hill, there is no irrigation but other facilities. It is a very sad matter that we are in the name of the land owner and we are landless. In this context, a long interview of Jagat Deuja was published in Kantipur, he emphasized that the portion of the land should be given to the farmers. We want to be freed from birta land. We want a solution to the problem. We need red parts of our land. How long to live a life of injustice? The team of the Ministry has also come several times to study this matter. A few months ago, the honorable minister himself had come to Nuwakot and Rasuwa. He had given hope and faith. However, there was no progress in solving the Birta problem. Even in the land ordinance that came recently, there is no such thing as birta. Therefore, we call for everyone's help and support to end the suffering of thousands of farmers.
