In an event organized by the Parliamentary Affairs Journalist Society at Kavrepalanchowk, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapalia has given a shock to the parties and leaders who have commented on the instability by raising questions on the electoral system.
It was seen that due to the existing electoral system, no party will be able to get a majority and instability will continue to increase. He reminded that the House did not complete its full term even though there was a single majority many times, but the term was completed when there was a mixed math. Again, no matter what the system is, how has the article of the constitution prevented anyone from winning the hearts of the people and getting the majority? Let's say there is an article of the constitution that prevents the party from getting a majority, if so, which article is it? Has anyone been able to say that in a way that common people can understand and agree with?
Most of the politicians have a tendency to form an opinion while going to bed after the stress of the day and change the opinion when they wake up and then speak in public considering that idea as an irrefutable truth. His sarcasm towards it seems quite reasonable. Some want a fully proportional system, some want to abolish proportionality altogether. But no one has a logical answer. Why do you need a direct election system if the election is won only by the power of money and gangsterism? Where is the value of the proportional system if you choose only your wife, children, middleman as a priority? The Chief Election Commissioner's speech was heard by all because of his official position, which represented the views of the common people.
