It has been heard that the Ministry of Education has begun preparations to make health a compulsory subject again at the school level.
With the implementation of the National Curriculum 2076, 'Compulsory Health, Population and Environment Education' was removed from the curriculum of class 9 and 10. Now new infectious diseases are coming. From reproductive health, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, cancer to various health issues, the society should be interested. I am happy that the debate that health should be made compulsory and not optional has started. First of all, mandatory and mandatory provision should be made to teach health and physical education subjects in humanities and education faculties in institutional higher secondary schools. Considering the subject of health as a respectable subject, as it has an important role in the promotion of school, community, and personal health, instructional provisions should be prepared.
It is important to draw the attention of the Minister of Education to the provision that those studying higher education in the Faculty of Education cannot take the health subject if they take the teaching method, and if they study the Faculty of Education with health, they cannot join the teacher's license examination. After completing 11th and 12th class, even though 200 marks of health subjects have been studied, only 100 marks are not allowed to join the teacher's permanent permit examination. It is necessary to make health and physical education subject of 200 marks in class 12, or 100 marks of 11 should be counted even if the study is internal or teacher license examination criteria should be revised. Teaching a sensitive subject like health requires subject expertise, experience and maturity. The health curriculum, which was changed three years ago, is thinner than what was taught before that. Clinical and community health aspects studied at the basic level are few. It is possible to arrange the health issue by removing the weeds, but to make it practical, it should be studied from all sides.
