In Nepal, politics has started to be understood as a tool for self-interest, position and wealth, instead of ideals such as social service, leadership and sustainable development.
From education to health, from courts to journalism, from sports to business, politics is gaining its influence in every field. In such a situation, it is an alarming trend for professional groups, which are considered the backbone of society, to forget their role and indulge in political interests. The most alarming aspect is the politicization from education to personnel administration.
When teachers and staff, who are the main pillars of nation building, get entangled in partisan interests, then the society cannot find the right direction. When education leaves politics and concentrates on pure knowledge and human creation, and the personnel administration abandons party interests and serves the people only, the country will start its journey of sustainable prosperity from that day.
In Nepal, every subject is viewed only through political glasses. It is ironic that even a good teacher, artist or philanthropist has to seek political support to ensure his success. The idea of making politics a salaried profession and a means of personal interest has reduced the dignity of this field. Today it has become a game of financial and personal gain as politics should work to show direction to the society. Politics needs to be redefined towards the path of social service.
For this, every professional group should work with confidence in their responsibilities and roles. If the teachers and staff administration will give up involvement in politics and work honestly and impartially, Nepal can start a new era of development and prosperity in the true sense. Only if politics is made a tool of leadership and service, the society will get the right direction.
