How old can you drive a vehicle in Nepal? How old is a new license? And how many years can be renewed? This is not written anywhere on the website of the Ministry of Physical and Transport, Department of Transport of the Government of Nepal. Only minimum age is mentioned.

By doing a Google search, it is written that in most countries, commercial vehicles can be driven up to the age of 70 years, in some places it is 75 years, and in the neighboring country of India, it is 70 years. In developed countries, after reaching the age of 70, it is mandatory to have a health check-up, including eye examinations, every 3-3 years.

In America, there is a rule for elderly people to drive in city areas but not on highways. But neither ministry nor department officials are clear about the upper age limit in Nepal.

When inquired about this with Makhamali Giri, the information officer of the transport office at Chabahil under the transport department, it was found that there is no concrete age limit, age is not considered in the case of small vehicles, but 60 years has been set for the driver's license of large vehicles that are operated commercially.

Giri also told that there is always confusion regarding new and old renewals as there is no upper age limit for other than big commercial vehicles.

Setting an upper age limit is as inevitable as a lower age limit. It is surprising that the government of Nepal has not yet made standards on such a sensitive issue. It is necessary to change such standards with time.

Earlier, the age of Nepalese leader was 52 years. Later it increased to 62, 68 and now it has reached 71.97 years. It is not appropriate to maintain the same standard at the age of 72 even at the age of 52.

Therefore, it is appropriate for the government of Nepal to make the upper age limit for driving a vehicle 70 years like in India. If it is more suitable, it is better to make it 72 years according to Sardar age.

In addition to this, arrangements should be made to renew driver's license anywhere in Nepal and collect vehicle revenue at any transport office across Nepal.

The renovation I did in the Chabhil office 5 years ago, this year Chabhil refused to do it and I was forced to go to a secluded corner. How long will the government continue to suffer like this?
