A few days ago, in newspapers and visual media, there was a scene of Nepalese youths wandering around the Tribhuvan International Airport premises as if they were stranded. They were wondering what kind of weather it was. Hundreds of these Nepali youths had arrived there to board the Qatari ship with passports with visas in hand to go to Qatar for foreign employment.

On that day, Qatar announced the indefinite suspension of all its international flights. On the tenth day of the war started by Israel against Iran, America also attacked Iran. After the United States itself was directly involved in the war, world public opinion came to condemn the United States.

After nuclear-armed powers like China, Russia, North Korea, Pakistan directly supported Iran and under their guise, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. Soon after, it attacked the American military base in Qatar. With the balance of power not looking in his favor, President Trump persuaded Iran and Israel to cease the war on his part. Only after that, air travel became easy for Nepali workers to reach Qatar. 

Why did the common Nepali people have to go to foreign jobs to earn a living? How long will the Nepalese have to wait to create jobs in their own country? Which political power was responsible for creating such a situation? This article focuses on these topics.

The opposite opinion of the leftists

I remembered my past when I saw the faces of desperate youths standing at the airport and sighing in despair. We grew up reading and listening to the sad stories of our ancestors who suffered the First and Second World Wars. According to the former Lahures of my village, during the Second World War, millions of Nepali youths were forced to join the war on behalf of the British. Thousands were killed. Disappeared, thousands injured and maimed. Few of the survivors were able to return to Nepal without spending any money. Perhaps this is why, when we were growing up, the Left used to oppose the Gorkha Bharati Centre. They raised the slogan that it is necessary to industrialize for the distribution of land and employment through land reform in the country. For us youths, that slogan sounded good.

For nearly four decades, the Left has had the good fortune to be either in the main opposition or in power. But they neither did scientific land reform nor adopted a policy of industrialization based on the strength of agriculture-based reserves as they claimed. Similarly, they raised the slogan of democratic education for all, but the educational environment of schools, colleges and universities has deteriorated in such a way that even in the Panchayat, which is called a dictatorship, this was not the case.

In 2049, the UML, which raised the slogan of multi-party democracy in the name of liberal left, or the Maoists, which proclaimed to bring the democracy of the twenty-first century in the 2060s, did not do anything significant for the economic transformation of the society. In the absence of these two transformations, there was no option to go for foreign employment. The government itself started facilitation for foreign employment. Instead of exporting goods and services, dream of manpower supply. UML and Maoists have been continuing this business which was started during the Congress government. 

According to the Kathmandu Post of December 18, 2024, 6.698 thousand 80 Nepalis are legally scattered in 173 countries for foreign employment. Out of which 5682 thousand men and 416 thousand women. 80 percent of the total workers are employed in the Gulf countries and Malaysia. About 75 percent are in the 25 to 55 age group. According to the Republic of March 16, 2025, 535,000 Nepali youths have left for foreign employment during the period from July to mid-March of the current financial year. This is the number of young people who register their names in the country and go abroad.

It has been speculated that the same number of people have gone to foreign employment illegally or illegally with the connivance of manpower companies and government officials. The old Gorkhas were mercenaries in a sense. Which is still the same. A few have been added. It is said that the number of mercenaries from the American side in the Afghan war and currently from the Russian side in the Ukrainian war is significant. Arkakha has many people who go to work abroad to sell manual labor. Which the Guardian magazine has interpreted as 'Navdas'. Leftists who opposed Gorkha recruitment have now become allies of cheap labor exporters in terms of policy. When the Congress is the main accused in the case of Bhutanese refugees and visit visas, they seem to have become its allies. 

It is well known that in the first general election after the promulgation of the constitution, the CPN led by Oli and Dahal formed the government with a huge majority. At that time, they had a great opportunity to draft laws for the transformation of the country according to the spirit of federalism and implement them legally. They could build a legal state with relative social justice by adopting a policy of modernization of agriculture and industrialization linked to agriculture as needed. But they did not pay attention even when they were CPN yesterday.

Today, even though they are in government on crutches, they have not set foot on the ground. As such, 64 percent of the total workforce remains in agriculture. But agriculture was nowhere in their policy priorities. The slogans of revolutionary land reform and sometimes scientific land reform became limited to slogans. The Oli government has started the exercise of demarcation for the commercialization of land by putting forward the failed 'concept' of the American model land bank. There is widespread suspicion that Oli himself is involved in the Giribandhu T-State issue. Nowadays, not only the youths have fled from agriculture, the whole mountain is under the pressure of rapid migration.

Madhesh is becoming unbalanced due to hill encroachment. Cities seem to be becoming hotbeds of disease, grief and hunger due to unscientific expansion and overcrowding. Construction of roads and other physical infrastructure is not being done keeping in mind any sophisticated planning, economic-political basis and people's needs. Internal and external debt has doubled in half a decade. There is a situation where more money than Nepal's development budget has to be allocated to repay the loan and loan installments. These leaders who called themselves Leninists learned nothing from Lenin's New Economic Policy (NEP). As a whole, he became the porter of the neoliberal policy authorized by the Congress. 

For the past decade, most of the time, the government was run under the leadership of Oli and Prachanda. But they did not even want to bring into the debate what should be the strategy of real economic development according to the aspirations of the people. Known as an agricultural country, Nepal's productivity rate is the weakest in South Asia. Due to the lack of young manpower, on the one hand, the land is becoming barren. On the other hand, billions of rupees worth of food, fruits and meat have to be imported.

According to the Economic Survey 2082, the manufacturing industry in the country contributes only 4.95 percent to the gross domestic product. This is a figure that has been stable for many years. That contribution did not provide employment to approximately 590,000 workers entering the labor market. The UML-Maoist leadership, which calls itself the Left, did not dare to address the real economic and moral issues according to the aspirations and needs of its voters.

They did not take the risk of addressing the income and wealth inequality that is prevalent in the country. He never tried to understand progressive taxation. They never realized that it is the state's responsibility to provide people with shelter, warm clothes and healthy food and public transport. He did not make any effort to bring education and health on track. Why are young people who have passed 12th now not interested in studying in the country's universities? It never became a subject of search and research. Carrying the agenda of two dozen big entrepreneurs and businessmen, they can't really be a left wing to create the conditions that will make them loot the country. 

Dishonest leadership

Not only in business matters, politics is also dishonest. Not only not understanding the essence of the principle, but also distorting it and making the theoretical and ideological recognition meaningless, the uncultured tendency can be called political dishonesty. This means not only lack of professional competence, but those who act contrary to social awareness, do not consider social values ​​and arguments other than their own to be rational, and those who make things difficult can be called dishonest. 

In history, the big empire was sunk by the unscrupulous rulers. Big empires like Roman, Mayan, French, Habsburg, Ottoman were drowned after the discovery of such 'idiots'. Lately the German, Iranian, Soviet, Empires have sunk. Stupid dishonest people are hungry for praise. The leaders who have the potential to reach political power and have reached it seek the most flattering flatterers (sycophantic buffoons). Soon there will be a queue of such sycophants. At present, such 'sycophantic buffoons' on social media such as Facebook, X, Tik Tok and other social networks showed their wit by writing slogans like 'I am Aringal, I am Jhole.'

Kings, Maharajas and Badshahs are born and raised from among the philanderers. Like - the Roman emperor Nero was intended to spend the state's treasury in order to acquire magical powers. He said that after the power of magic in the hands of the king, he would get the kingship of the world and the way to go to heaven alive would be opened. The Chinese Emperor Qin Si Huang was convinced that if he bathed in a pool on such an imaginary sea island, the Emperor would become immortal. Homin instigated World War I by saying that the Russian czar had the right to become the emperor of the world. Two million Russian soldiers were killed in the June war and the revolution in the streets overthrew the Tsar Romanoff regime. 

Gorvachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, was cast as a democratic leader by 'sycophantic buffoons'. Which led to the disintegration of the country that had the first socialist revolution. American Trump has chanted 'America Great Again'. But they are making America weaker day by day. The 'buffoons' have placed Oli one hand above Brahmarishi Vashishta. A master of proverbial tukka, he has no concern at all about research-based periodical planning and institutional implementation. His sycophants are unabashedly blasting the cannon of wretched neoliberal capitalism in the name of socialism. He is not ignorant, he is not unaware that the programs he has created are working in the exact opposite direction of socialism. But he disguises it as socialism. He received 

The current youth generation has realized that the country is no longer run by his education, his intellectual abilities and his prison experience. Majority of the citizens are looking at him with disbelief, but his 'sycophantic buffoons' are trying tirelessly to force him to become a politician. 

Even his friends who fought with him do not believe that today's Prachanda would have led the people's war. But some do not say anything for fear of being marginalised. Like Oli, he is standing under a strong guard of sycophants. His current thesis is 180 degrees different from his Maoist thesis during the People's War. Not only in all economic and social aspects, but also in political stance, he was never reliable. He claimed that he was removed from power because of his anti-corruption campaign while in power.

In the second week of June, his promise to the people that he will not dream of power until the next year 2084, that he will not fight elections with UML or Congress, that he will raise his voice in the parliament and on the streets for socialist-oriented economic and social policies, and that he will not repeat the mistakes of the past, proved himself to be false. His stance on the visit visa issue turned out to be colorless and odorless.

He and his party did not take any dynamic theoretical, ideological and programmatic stance on the government's policy program and budget, such as economic and social transformation. In theory, it is difficult to distinguish whether Prachanda's Maoists are the opposition or the ruling party. His credibility graph has reached the abyss due to his morning-evening speech or discourse. There is a saying about him in the market, "Today's Prachanda does not believe in Marxism-Leninism and current Maoism, but in magic and invisible power."
