How long is the vicious cycle of menstrual cycle?

It is necessary to change the wrong interpretation of menstruation as sin of pre-birth and embrace it as a glorious process of continuity of creation.

In fact, menstruation is the reason why this creation has been going on uninterruptedly for centuries. It has long since become clear to science that menstruation is an inevitable natural process for the continuity of creation.

In this sense, menstruation should be seen as a blessing, not a curse. But irony! From centuries till today, our own mothers, sisters, wives and daughters are doomed to suffer from menstrual discrimination.

The terrible stories and pains of menstrual discrimination that shame the modern human civilization are prevalent in different forms from the havelis of Kathmandu to the slums of Far West. Menstruation is a completely natural and biological phenomenon, which is associated with the female reproductive process. According to science, menstruation is a monthly cycle, which usually lasts 28 days.

can happen at any time or sometimes even at a gap of 21 to 35 days. Menstruation usually starts when girls enter puberty. Menstruation is caused by changing hormones during physical development. Menstruation usually starts between the ages of 9 and 16 and ends between the ages of 45 and 50.

The onset of menstruation naturally expresses the continuity of creation and the power of motherhood. In that sense, individuals, families and society should welcome and respect that process in a festive manner. But irony! Those great mothers, sisters and daughters are made victims of inferiority, shame and guilt in the name of so-called traditions and traditions.

14 violation of fundamental rights

The natural rights guaranteed by the constitution are not just for men. The fundamental rights guaranteed by our constitution are equal to men and women. But once we look deeper, it is found that there is a serious violation of more than 14 fundamental rights provided in the constitution due to menstruation discrimination. Menstruation is still considered 'untouchable' in the village. Based on this, if women are discriminated for 4 days in a month, then such discrimination is reaching 48 days in a year.

The constitution has guaranteed every citizen the right to live with dignity. But the right of menstruating women to live with dignity in the village-society is taken away. Because of menstruation, women have to live an unwanted life of humiliation, scorn and isolation during that period.

Similarly, the constitution guarantees the right of any citizen not to be deprived of personal freedom. But many rights related to the personal freedom of women subjected to menstruation discrimination are suppressed. They can neither freely go where they want, nor eat what they want.

The constitution has ensured the right of every citizen against untouchability and discrimination. But menstruating women are deprived of that right step by step. Likewise, menstruating women are also deprived of their right to information because they are kept in isolation in different places and environments. Similarly, the right to eat good food during menstruation, the right to safe health is not guaranteed, and even the right to safe housing is denied.

In addition to these and such discrimination, in many places restrictions are imposed such as not touching the house stove, cooked food, pooja room, etc. after menstruation, staying in a shed outside the house where one lives, being deprived of cow and buffalo milk and curd, and not being able to participate in religious and cultural events. Somewhere a separate shed or hut etc. is made for the women to stay during menstruation, and some places they are kept in the corner of the house along with the belongings. By doing this, the condition of being deprived of nutritious food, rest, cleanliness, love and support is created. In many places there are also examples of people who have lost their lives due to snake bites.

The inevitability of decent menstruation  To break the story, the Civil Code, 2074 states that any kind of discrimination, touching or inhumane treatment of a woman during menstruation or childbirth, whether or not they are kept close to each other, is considered a crime. Those who commit such offenses will be punished with imprisonment up to three months or a fine of up to three thousand rupees or both. But in practice its effect is not seen at all. The effectiveness of that law seems to be zero because the women themselves who are subjected to such discrimination do not go to complain against their own families.

In our society dominated by patriarchy, men do not understand the pain of mothers who give birth to themselves. Some old men very superficially claim that because of their poor health during menstruation, they are resting by not going into the kitchen. But they ignore the fact that they are not allowed to enter the kitchen and are sent outside to dig the fields, are sent to carry manure and are sent to do very difficult work.

and others limit the problem to health and hygiene. And they think that all problems will be solved after distributing free pads. Both of these are superficial and misunderstandings.

Menstrual discrimination should be recognized as a criminal offense and legal arrangements should be made to prosecute cases of such crimes by the state itself. The National Modem Menstruation Policy, which was drafted in the past and stalled, should be released without delay. It is necessary to change the wrong interpretation of menstruation as sin of pre-birth and embrace it as a glorious process of continuity of creation.

Everyone should make their home an environment that declares itself as a menstrual discrimination-free home. Come on, many times in history we have fought for many, once for our own mothers, sisters, sisters and daughters.
