Cancer treatment is an expensive treatment. For this, Nepal government has taken many relief initiatives. For example: the facility of one lakh for cancer treatment and monthly treatment expenses due to the implementation of health insurance, the poor patients have received financial relief even though it is little. However, cancer treatment services should be expanded in government hospitals to take the necessary initiatives for most Nepalis who are below the poverty line.

Nepal is also not untouched by the increasing incidence of cancer worldwide. The number of patients is increasing every year. Lack of early detection, limited treatment facilities, lack of finances and lack of public awareness and fear of cancer in the society have caused the death of thousands of cancer patients.
However, with recent advances in new healthcare infrastructure, various treatment techniques, public awareness and health policies, it seems certain that cancer treatment will take a leap in the future.
is the third leading cause of death from non-communicable diseases in Nepal. Lung cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer and colon and stomach cancer are the major cancers in Nepal. Smoking, consumption of gutka, environmental pollution, change in diet, lack of healthy lifestyle
and genetic causes are increasing the risk of cancer. Currently, cancer is being treated by government and private health institutions. The number of cancer specialized hospitals is still limited. The government has set a target of building a specialized cancer hospital in every province, which is inevitable.
Cancer treatment services are currently being provided by government and public hospitals including Nepal's oldest hospital Veer Hospital, BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Sushil Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Civil Hospital and various private hospitals. Cancer treatment basically consists of 'palliative care' including cancer prevention, early detection, screening, cancer treatment.
Cancer prevention is the most important thing we should pay attention to. In order to prevent cancer, the reduction measures should be strictly implemented in the sale of tobacco products. For vaccine-preventable cancers, HPV vaccine, hepatitis B should be strengthened. The recent APV vaccination campaign launched by the Nepalese government is very welcome. Especially, it seems necessary to take appropriate measures to reduce air pollution. It is inevitable that food quality, monitoring, quantity testing of pesticides should be done regularly.
Cancer is completely curable if detected at an early stage and with the necessary treatment. Therefore, the flow of awareness and correct information is the main need of today to overcome the negative fear of cancer in the society.
The treatment of cancer has taken a huge leap in the world in the last decade. Modern treatments have transformed cancer, which was once a 'death sentence', into a curable chronic disease. There are various cancer treatment techniques, all of which are available in Nepal. Cancer treatment techniques include surgery, radiotherapy, drug treatments such as chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy are available in Nepal. Palliative care also plays a major role in cancer treatment, which is also available in Nepal.
Currently, there is a shortage of cancer specialist doctors. There is a need to strengthen diagnostic services such as pathology services in the detection of cancer. Since cancer treatment is available in few centers, most of the patients have to leave their homes for months for treatment. Also, because abdominal scan is not available at the government level, bone marrow transplant, which is inevitable for blood cancer, is only in civil hospitals, so many patients have to wait for a long time. Diagnostic tests such as immunohistochemistry and NEX gene sequencing (NGS), which are very important in cancer treatment, are still not fully available in Nepal. It seems necessary for the government to pay attention to its improvement.
There is also a major need for skilled manpower such as medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, hematologists, surgical oncologists, palliative care physicians, oncology nurses, medical physicists, and radiation technologists. It is indispensable for citizens of every part of the country to get easy cancer treatment.
Therefore, the quality of the medicine used in it should be measured regularly. Even in terms of radiotherapy machines, our country is still far below WHO standards. Radiation therapy is an integral part of cancer treatment. This facility is currently available mainly in the capital and some big cities. It seems very necessary for the government to pay attention to this.
Similarly, palliative care, treatment techniques and drugs that facilitate cancer patients have not reached all places. Due to the lack of treatment, many patients are not able to go home during the last stage of cancer and patients who go home do not get easy treatment. Therefore, necessary steps should be taken to enhance palliative services.

We are now in an exciting and hopeful time in cancer treatment. Although the incidence of cancer has increased worldwide, the victory over this disease is increasing due to the great and unimaginable developments in cancer treatment. Even in Nepal we are able to provide such world class treatment. If we improve the government's cancer policy, develop the latest cancer treatment technology in the country and improve public awareness, we can reduce the death rate related to cancer. With continued investment in health infrastructure, improved health services for early disease detection, and the development of innovative treatments tailored to countries, we can all defeat cancer together.
