The justice-loving community is now hurt by the suspicious death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha, and the repression of Nepali students demanding justice.

Although Prakriti complained to the university administration regarding repeated abuse by Indian student Adhik Srivastava, it is understood from the preliminary details that the incident led to his death due to lack of proper hearing. Due to the lack of sensitivity and mechanism to hear student concerns in the university, Nepali students had to die indiscriminately.

On the other hand, the university did not listen to the demands of the Nepali students who were concerned and concerned about his death, but instead resorted to repression and abuse. It has become clear that the capacity of the university administration to be sensitive to the background and consequences of the incident and to facilitate the environment is not sufficient. Therefore, a diplomatic initiative from the top level of Nepal-India is necessary.

The style of university administration is not only professional but also humanely reprehensible. Insensitivity to the complaints given by Prakriti is the unforgivable fault of the University. It was a mistake to treat the perpetrators of abuse and violence lightly instead of assisting them in conducting police investigations. Even then he kept repeating the mistake. Even after his death, the university also repressed Nepali students who were shocked after the death of their friend.

Nepali students who went to demand investigation and action against Indian student Srivastava, who allegedly mistreated Lamsal, were beaten up by security guards and bouncers on Sunday night. It is unnatural to oppress students who demand justice without committing to the natural course of facilitating the investigation of the accused. Students who came to study from another country, who were traumatized by the death of a friend and who had become angry at the oppression of the university, were expected to be reassured of safety and inspired to be mentally strong.

At the same time, the person in charge of the university spoke the language of warning to Nepali students in non-academic and connecting their weak consciousness and knowledge with the country. It is shameful to have hateful people represented in educational and academic institutions. This shows that education alone cannot give awareness. It will be good for the concerned organization if it can self-examine and purify it.

The repression and inhumane treatment of the university continued on Monday. In the morning, the Nepali students were asked to leave the hostel. Those who refused were beaten. They were forcibly taken to railway stations, airports and bus stations and stranded. The university has said that the two security guards involved in the beating have been dismissed, and two high-ranking officials of the dormitory and an administration officer have also been suspended until the incident is investigated. Some more have been arrested. But in such cases, there is a possibility that the lower level employees will pretend to be punished and the higher-ups will be spared. Therefore, the role of higher officials should also be investigated.

The university has apologized, but on what atoning foundation is it standing? The test will be clear in a few days. Basically, the details from the action to the apology should become a reference for learning the punishment for wrongdoing and how to behave in such cases in the future.

Lamsal's issue of getting justice is now the first agenda. For this, a detailed and impartial investigation into the incident is the first condition. In that regard, it can be expected that the Indian government agencies will take necessary steps. Lamsal's justice and action against the culprits is a step in the right direction. There is another side to this.

because more than one thousand Nepali students are studying in the same university. Now their safety has become an important issue. Lamsal's death and subsequent repression and abuse will surely weaken their attachment to the university and its administration. They will remain in fear of any security threat at any time. This will affect their learning achievement. Nepali students have been called upon to return after the criticism of the university has increased due to the suspension. But this is only a technical matter.

It doesn't bring a broken mindset to the right place. Once he is out of university, he has to work harder in the future to improve his image. It should be assured that there will be no request/prejudicial behavior towards students who have gone there especially from other countries including Nepalese.

The number of students going abroad for studies has been increasing in recent financial years. In the financial year 2080/81, 112,593 students took 'No Objection Letter' for studying abroad. In 2079/80, 100,000 and 100,000 in 2078/79, around 100,000 took 'No Objection Letter'. The number of students going to study in Japan, Canada and Australia is high. However, it seems that Nepali has reached most countries of the world for study. Even though many of them go for study, it is also found that labor is the main purpose. Many of these are very young.

Many students are caught up in studies and work. They are under stress. Therefore, it is necessary to train them on stress management and possible ways to overcome the problems encountered in the respective country or the respective educational institution. Along with this, they should be informed about the agencies and procedures from which assistance can be sought as needed.

In particular, the Nepali Embassy in the respective country or visiting that country, organizations representing Nepali, groups supporting Nepali, as far as available local parents should be informed about the ways and alternative means to get help. Before the student goes abroad, the government agency or the parents themselves should discuss this extensively. So that tragedy can be reduced.
