The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has sought clarification from two employees who have been absent from the office for a long time after obtaining permanent residency permits from foreign countries.
The ministry has issued a notice stating that legal proceedings have been initiated against them because they have been residing abroad without reporting to their respective offices after the end of their leave. The ministry had previously given them a 15-day deadline to submit an explanation. As the explanations they submitted within that period were deemed unsatisfactory, the ministry has given a second 30-day deadline for clarification.
The ministry's notice states that they have obtained permanent residency permits from foreign countries. According to the notice, the two employees are survey officers.
According to legal provisions, civil servants are not allowed to obtain or even apply for residency permits in foreign countries while holding office. Since they failed to report to the office within 30 days after their approved leave ended and acted in violation of the Civil Service Act, they have been asked for clarification.
According to the ministry, as per the Civil Service Act, 2049, since circumstances have arisen that require action against them that would render them ineligible for future government service, they have been asked to submit a satisfactory explanation with supporting evidence within 30 days.
The ministry has also stated that it has intensified studies and investigations regarding other employees who are residing abroad and have been out of contact for a long time after being absent from their offices.
