Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that the construction of infrastructure at Border Out Posts (BOPs) is a government priority in order to boost the morale of police officers working in border areas.
He made this statement while addressing a meeting of the National Assembly's Committee on Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns on Friday.
He mentioned that at most border checkpoints, police are forced to work night shifts under huts roofed with corrugated sheets, dilapidated buildings, and leaking roofs, and stated that infrastructure development is the top priority. He said that to control crime and ensure border security, surveillance will be conducted using drones and CCTV systems with facial recognition will be installed at border checkpoints. He also stated that the government has already allocated the budget for the current fiscal year and implementation is underway. He expressed confidence that if the security of personnel deployed in border areas can be ensured, they will be able to protect citizens even more effectively.
