Medical education reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has announced that he will begin a satyagraha from Thursday.

Issuing a press release from Darchula today, he announced the satyagraha, stating that although he had given the government a deadline until the 5th of Saun to address the people's right to health and reforms in medical education, it had not been fulfilled.

He has put forward five demands to the government. His demands include the immediate annulment of illegal and self-serving appointments made to the Martyr Dasharath Chand Medical University and the Medical Education Commission, which create conflicts of interest, and the prompt amendment of disputed provisions in the Act.

The government has appointed Professor Devendra Khatri to the Medical Education Commission. He was employed at the Nepal Army Institute of Health Sciences (Medical College). Similarly, Professor Sunil Kumar Joshi has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Martyr Dasharath Chand University.

Another of Dr. KC's demands is the immediate cancellation of decisions or proposals to reduce scholarships through the Medical Education Commission and to increase seats in private colleges without standards and infrastructure. He also demands the implementation of legal provisions to make medical education fully non-profit.

He has also demanded the implementation of written agreements made with previous governments. “Let necessary infrastructure and services be expanded with priority to protect citizens’ rights and national dignity, ending the compulsion for citizens of Sudurpaschim and other border areas to depend on neighboring countries for health, education, transportation, and employment,” he stated in the press release.
