The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the citizens to be on high alert as the flow of small rivers in various districts of the country may increase significantly today.
According to the department, there is a high risk of flash floods in small rivers flowing through Gorkha, Rupandehi, Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu and Dang districts.
Similarly, there is a risk of small flash floods in the districts of Jhapa, Morang, Ilam, Sunsari, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Gulmi, Palpa, Nawalparasi (East), Nawalparasi (West), Pyuthan, Banke, Bardiya, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi and Darchula.
The department's flood expert Binod Parajuli urged the general public to be especially vigilant in the riverbanks and riverside areas of those districts. 'As the water flow in the river may increase suddenly, one should not cross the river, fish, excavate river-related materials, or live or move around the riverbank in such a situation,' he said.
