The parliamentary committee has directed the government to immediately take action to improve the physical infrastructure of juvenile correctional homes across the country, enhance capacity, and manage the nutrition of children.

The meeting of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee under the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Sunday discussed the report submitted by the 'Inspection and Observation Subcommittee on the Human Rights of Children in Juvenile Correctional Homes' and issued various four-point directives.

Committee chairperson Samiksha Baskota directed the committee to make the situation of juvenile correctional homes more systematic. She said that it has been decided to make it more result-oriented by incorporating the constructive and practical suggestions received in the meeting on the subcommittee's report and to submit the revised report in the next meeting of the committee and move forward with the implementation process.

As the on-site monitoring showed that the building of the correctional home in Rupandehi is narrow and unsuitable, the committee has also directed that the correctional home be immediately transferred to the newly constructed building of the Rupandehi District Coordination Committee. For this, instructions have been given to immediately carry out the work in coordination with the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration.

The committee has directed to immediately make alternative arrangements in view of the increasing pressure and limited physical infrastructure in the reform homes. Baskota said that the ministry has been instructed to make arrangements to keep the children according to their conditions and needs and to start work quickly in collaboration with the concerned bodies.
