The family of Ganesh Nepali, who died during treatment after attempting self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself, has refused to accept his body.
Ganesh’s nephew, Man Nepali, said that they would not accept the body until the government takes responsibility for the care of his family.
“His (uncle’s) wife is still studying. His daughter is also very young,” he told Kantipur. “He was the sole breadwinner for the family. The government must take responsibility for Ganesh’s wife and daughter. We will not accept the body until that happens.”
He also warned of protests if the government refuses to take responsibility. “Whether we have to go to Maitighar or elsewhere, we will protest,” Nepali said.
On Thursday, after the Metropolitan Police put a wheel lock on his bike for parking in the wrong place, Ganesh attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself in front of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar.
He was immediately taken to Bir Hospital for treatment. According to the hospital, about 55 percent of his body was burned.
The hospital stated that Ganesh died as treatment became increasingly difficult due to the extent of his burns.
