Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Karishma Kathriya has said that they have been made to feel helpless because the government has been unable to provide farmers with the fertilizer and seeds they need.
In Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives, she said, "Even when they have a high fever, farmers cry out that they need fertilizer before paracetamol. Why does the government not feel the pain of the farmers, Mr. Speaker?"
She explained that while farmers are asking for fertilizer, the government keeps insisting that there is fertilizer in the warehouses. "Our food producers are saying—let us endure fever, let us endure illness, but we cannot endure hunger or drought in our fields. We are ready to pay any price, but please provide us with fertilizer, government," she said. "Isn't this like trading in the tears of farmers, Mr. Speaker? Farmers are suffering, making hundreds of calls daily, asking what was the point of electing you if you can't even provide fertilizer."
She also said that the government should immediately apologize to the food-producing farmers.
