The Infrastructure Development Committee of the Federal Parliament has directed the government to ensure smooth supply of clean and quality drinking water to citizens across the country. In a meeting of the committee held on Wednesday, Chairman Ashish Gajurel directed the concerned bodies and ministries related to infrastructure development to provide details with a clear action plan within the next 15 days. Addressing the meeting, Chairman Gajurel demanded a concrete answer on the issue of when adequate and clean drinking water would be provided to nearly 30 million citizens in all 77 districts. He expressed concern that the drinking water problem across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, was becoming worse day by day and stated that it was the primary duty of the state to manage clean drinking water. The committee has also prepared to go on-site monitoring soon in coordination with the heads of the concerned projects. For this, the committee will write to the concerned bodies to provide its priorities and plans.

A concrete answer to the question of when clean drinking water would be available to the common citizens has not yet been received. Therefore, we direct you to provide a clear action plan and details with a timeline within the next 15 days. Based on the action plan received, the committee will proceed with the regulation and monitoring process,' said Gajurel.

The meeting also discussed the Road Safety Bill and operating the transport system during disasters. Chairman Gajurel said that information has been received from the ministry that work is being done in this regard and the committee will continue to follow it up.
