The National Human Rights Commission has requested the National Independent Party (NISP) to provide detailed information as soon as possible on the issue of granting party membership to children under the age of 18.
The commission, in a letter released on Wednesday, said that the information was sought based on information received by the commission and information made public in various media outlets that the NISP had distributed party membership to children under the age of 18.
The letter states that the commission has drawn serious attention to the news published that children were organized as party members. The report, which is said to have been presented at the party general convention, states that if the party had distributed membership to children under the age of 18, such an act would be against the prevailing Nepalese law and Nepal's international commitments. Therefore, it is requested to provide detailed information as soon as possible on whether or not they have been distributed party membership to them as per Section 21(1) of the National Human Rights Commission Act, 2068 BS.
