The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all 77 district administrations to regularly monitor the quality and hygiene of food in hotels and restaurants operating across the country. Based on the Home Minister-level decision, the Ministry's Branch Officer Sangam Sapkota has sent such monitoring instructions by writing to all district administration offices. The letter calls for making regulation result-oriented rather than limiting it to the process. The circular issued by Branch Officer Sapkota states that strict action will be taken against any party that directly affects the health of citizens or violates the prevailing laws. The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has drawn its serious attention to the widespread complaints received from the general public regarding the poor quality and hygiene of food in some hotels and restaurants operating across the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed to immediately establish a grievance redressal mechanism (hotline or quick service desk) at the District Administration Office so that complaints from the general public can be easily registered.

It has been requested to immediately resolve every complaint received from the citizen level on high priority. In order to maintain the effectiveness of local administration and citizen trust, it has been asked to completely end the tradition of complainants having to go to the center or ministry for minor issues.
