The government has extended the time limit for displaced squatter families from riverside settlements in the Kathmandu Valley by seven days to vacate the holding center. Earlier, a notice had been issued suggesting that the holding center should be vacated by Asad 12.
The empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee has issued another notice, stating that it has extended the time limit until Asad 19. According to the committee, the decision was made flexible after complaints were received that the time period for receiving house rent was too short.
The notice also called on the displaced families to apply for the funds by Asad 15.
The government had cleared the riverside squatter settlements in the valley using dozers on April 12, 13, 19 and 20. It is stated that in order to receive the funds that the government is said to provide for re-management, the victims will have to submit an application in the prescribed format along with their bank account number at the Dasharath Stadium by April 15.
