Five people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, state media reported.
The attacks came despite a new ceasefire announced a day earlier between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. The state-run National News Agency (NNA) said Israeli airstrikes had hit more than a dozen locations in southern Lebanon, including the Nabataean region, after midnight and into the early hours of Saturday.
The NNA said three people were killed in an airstrike in the town of Arab Salim, one in Deir Zahran and another when a drone targeted a motorcycle at the entrance to the town of Dweir.
Earlier on Friday, Lebanon’s health ministry said 47 people had been killed in Israeli strikes in the south and east. The Israeli military had claimed to have carried out more than 150 strikes in Lebanon that day.
Meanwhile, an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced at the initiative of US and Qatari mediators. But recent developments have cast uncertainty over the implementation of the ceasefire.
