Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has said that fruitful discussions were held on various dimensions of bilateral relations during his recent visit to neighboring India.

He informed the National Assembly today about his official visit to India from Jestha 22 to 24. He said that the bilateral talks included substantive discussions on strengthening people-to-people relations including trade and economic cooperation, connectivity, energy partnership, water resource management and sports.

'I feel that the discussions and high-level meetings held in New Delhi have taken Nepal-India diplomatic and economic cooperation to a new height and have laid a strong foundation for furthering result-oriented cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the coming days,' said Minister Khanal. He said that the opportunity has been given to strongly express Nepal's balanced, independent and multifaceted foreign policy.

He said that a solid foundation has been laid on expanding trade and investment, strengthening energy cooperation, promoting tourism and expanding 'connectivity' and people-to-people relations.

During his visit to India, he informed that both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations in a meeting with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. He also mentioned that discussions were held with India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was exchanged between the Digital Public Infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence Center and the Digital India Language Division of the School of Engineering of Kathmandu University for cross-border payment-to-payment, payment service operation, handover of post-earthquake reconstruction projects in Nepal with India's development assistance, and co-construction of the national digital infrastructure of the 'Voice First' language translation platform, as per the agreement with NCHL, he also informed.
