The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against seven people, including Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajeshman Singh, on charges of obtaining citizenship by submitting false documents. According to the commission's spokesperson Suresh Neupane, a corruption case has been filed against Singh and others in a special court on charges of obtaining citizenship by forging documents for someone else's daughter.

The CIAA has also filed a case against Rita Bhattarai of Sindhupalchowk for claiming to have obtained citizenship by pretending to be Singh's daughter.   Similarly, a corruption case has been filed against the then ward secretary of Birgunj-3, Bhikhari Ray, and the then acting ward chair, Tufail Akhtar Thakurai. Similarly, the CIAA has also made the then deputy secretary and member of the Home Ministry's investigation committee, Pushkar Rana, and branch officer, Parshuram Pokharel, defendants.

The Authority has demanded that Mayor Singh be punished as per Section 22 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, for providing or accepting cash, goods or any other facility or benefit for the offence under Section 9, Section 11, Section 12 and Sub-section (2) of Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.

The Parsa District Court had earlier ordered the release of Mayor Singh, who was arrested on the same charge, on Jestha 19.
