Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has said that the government is ready to further expand and strengthen Nepal-India relations in a new vein.

In a special interview with Indian channel 'NDTV' on Saturday, he said that the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) has reached the leadership of the government in about four years of its establishment due to the will and support of the people and said that the government is ready to further strengthen the multidimensional relations between the two countries.

Stating that despite the open border between Nepal and India, each country understands the security concerns of the other, Minister Khanal stressed the need to further expand the multidimensional and cordial relations between the two countries.

Referring to the meeting he had with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar at a program in Mauritius, he said that cooperation should be done in all possible areas. Minister Khanal said that Nepal expects India's support, investment and cooperation in areas including trade, energy, infrastructure, education, health, technology and communication networks.

He also expressed confidence that India will stand by Nepal's electricity exports to Bangladesh. 'We have not brought back the past. In the past, we could not take as much development benefits from the two big neighboring countries as we should have. Now, we will use diplomatic relations for mutual benefit and a positive future,' Minister Khanal said. 'We will identify areas of better cooperation and establish new and multifaceted cooperation to strengthen the livelihood of the Nepali people.'

He said that the grand welcome given to RSP President Ravi Lamichhane by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the government during his recent visit to India has inspired him to take the bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights.

Minister Khanal was confident that an agreement would soon be reached for concrete cooperation in the expansion of railways, development of educational institutions and expansion of technology in Nepal.
