It has been 76 years since the first ascent of Annapurna. Today marks 76 years since the first ascent of the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna mountain, located on the border of Myagdi, Kaski, Manang and Mustang districts. The base camp of this mountain is located in the geography of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Narchyang, Myagdi.

Annapurna is called the oldest mountain because the first human footstep on this mountain, which is more than eight thousand meters high. On June 3, 1950, the team of Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal of France successfully climbed the peak of Annapurna, three years after that, the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, was successfully climbed.

The day is being celebrated by organizing various programs to commemorate the development of Nepal's tourism sector and the launch of mountaineering, which made the mountain known to the world, said Bharat Kumar Pun, Chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality.

On this occasion, Annapurna Rural Municipality of Kaski has organized a running competition towards the base camp towards Ghandruk and an Annapurna Climbing Day in Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung to promote the new trekking route.

According to the Department of Tourism, 27 people from four groups had obtained permission to climb Annapurna, which had been climbed by 536 people until last year, in the spring of this year. The details of how many of those who obtained permission successfully climbed are being updated, said Sharmila Banjade, branch officer of the department.

Last year, Diamond Jubilee was celebrated to mark the 75th anniversary of the first successful climb of Annapurna.
