The Department of Mines and Geology has done the homework for the second phase of the agreement for petroleum production. The department has made internal preparations for an additional agreement between the department and the China Geological Survey for commercial exploration.
The petroleum exploration project, run with the technical assistance of the Chinese government for domestic production of petroleum products, has stated that the first phase of drilling and exploration work has been completed in Jaljale, Bhairavi Rural Municipality-1, Dailekh. The department, which has completed the drilling and exploration work of petroleum products, has coordinated with the government to obtain the necessary support for the agreement to start commercial production.
The department, in collaboration with a technical team from China, recently completed a seismic survey, geological survey, magneto-telluric survey and geochemical sampling survey, informed the acting head of the petroleum exploration project, Dharmaraj Khadka.
Sample tests conducted to study the production and storage volume of petroleum products have also confirmed the possibility of petrol and natural gas. It is said that if the project is successfully implemented, a huge amount of money spent on importing petrol and natural gas can be reduced. This will help in import substitution as well as the economic development of the country.
