The Cambodian government has waived the fines of 602 Nepali citizens who overstayed their visas.
The Cambodian government has waived the fines of these Nepalis at the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. The embassy has urged Nepalis who have overstayed their visas in Cambodia to return home immediately.
The embassy issued a notice on Thursday stating that it has collected the details of Nepali citizens who have reached Cambodia through various means and are still living there after their visas have expired, prepared ‘one-way travel documents’ for them and sent them to Cambodia.
The embassy has provided ‘one-way travel documents’ to Nepalis who have lost their passports or whose passports have expired.
According to the new legal provisions implemented by Cambodia, foreign citizens who do not return home within a month may be arrested, fined and even imprisoned, the embassy said.
The embassy has also requested that the relevant details be sent to the Cambodian Immigration Department immediately after arranging tickets for those who have had their fines and fees waived. In addition, as there are no direct flights from Cambodia to Nepal, it has been warned to purchase tickets only after ensuring a connecting flight.
