The government has taken forward the work of collecting and documenting the work done so far on transitional justice. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam said that the work done on transitional justice is being documented in accordance with the peace agreement signed to resolve the 10-year armed conflict led by the then Maoists.
Stating that the government is committed to bringing the work of transitional justice to a conclusion, Minister Gautam said that the work of documenting the work done so far on transitional justice is underway. Minister Gautam gave this information at the meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives on Monday. 'The message has been conveyed that the government is fully committed to bringing the transitional justice process to a conclusion,' she said.
Minister Gautam informed the parliamentary committee about the work being done by the government on transitional justice. 'Systematic archiving of old records and documents related to transitional justice is underway. The work of collecting and organizing the track record of activities completed from the past to the present has been progressed with great intensity,' Minister Gautam said, 'A detailed position paper will be prepared with the aim of clearly defining the past, present situation and future course of action of transitional justice. The necessary financial management, strategy and action plan will be prepared to bring the transitional justice process to a conclusion.'
She informed that the necessary dialogue, coordination and consultation work is being continuously carried out at the political level to bring transitional justice to a conclusion.
She also said that the fund has been operated in accordance with the provisions of the Transitional Justice Act. 'The fund has been operationalized for the compensation of victims by formulating the fund operation regulations in accordance with the latest amendment to the Transitional Justice Act,' she said, 'The regulations of both the transitional justice commissions are ready. The O&M of the human resource management of both the transitional justice commissions is ready.'
Minister Gautam said that the government has signed agreements with various UN bodies to conclude Nepal's transitional justice process and peace process. She also informed the committee that the government has signed an agreement with Switzerland to conclude work related to transitional justice.
