The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged people to be vigilant as extreme heat and heat waves are likely to prevail in the districts of the western Tarai from today to Monday.

The Authority has said that there is a possibility of extreme heat with the maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or more in a few places in the Tarai of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces for three days. The Authority has stated that there is a possibility of moderate heat waves in the Tarai areas of those provinces.

The Authority has put Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts on alert and Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Pyuthan, Rolpa, Salyan, Surkhet, Achham, Dadeldhura and Baitadi on the list of districts that need to be updated.

The Authority has urged people to be vigilant as extreme heat and heat waves can have moderate to severe effects on human health. The NEA has urged all disaster-related agencies to be prepared for necessary preparations and response.

In a special bulletin on hot days and heat waves issued by the Department of Water and Meteorology on Friday, it is stated that the temperature has increased sharply in some areas of the Terai since Jestha 6. Doctors say that due to extreme heat, fatigue, weakness, excessive thirst, headache, leg cramps, dizziness, fainting, muscle pain, vomiting and other health problems may occur.

To avoid heat waves, the NEA has urged people to stay indoors as much as possible during the hot sun or during the afternoon, and if they have to go out, to wear an umbrella or cover their heads with a thin cloth. Similarly, the Authority has requested people to wear loose, light-colored clothes that are cool, drink plenty of water, take cold showers occasionally, consume unsweetened beverages, lemon water, and fruits, and drink Jeevan Jal if they sweat a lot.

Eat fresh, homemade food, avoid junk food as much as possible, work in the fields or outdoors only before the heat increases in the morning or after the coolness returns in the afternoon, and not let children play in the hot sun, the alert issued by the Authority today states.
