The 34th meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee has approved the 'Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan 2081'.

Joint Secretary of the Authority Amrit Shrestha said that according to the approved action plan, it is estimated that about 226,661 people from 51,668 households across the country may be affected by this year's monsoon.

The Authority has stated that all government agencies and related clusters have been assigned the responsibility to remain prepared in view of the potential risks. The meeting has also approved the 'Search and Rescue Formation and Mobilization Standards' and 'Artificial Event Practice Operation Procedures' with amendments.

The forecast-based pre-action framework has also been approved, giving priority to minimizing damage during disasters. Joint Secretary Shrestha informed that this framework will help reduce the cost of response and reduce human suffering by making necessary preparations before the disaster occurs.

Similarly, the meeting has decided to amend the Disaster-affected Private Housing Reinforcement, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Procedure 2081. It is believed that this amendment will accelerate the currently sluggish reconstruction work. The meeting has also approved the expenses incurred during the air rescue of the disaster-affected people.

The meeting has also taken a concrete decision to address the shortage of manpower seen in the district-based Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project Implementation Offices.

It has been decided to mobilize employees from the relevant thematic bodies for the reconstruction to be carried out in the coming days and for the time being, the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport will manage the necessary manpower.
