The government is preparing to provide a monthly house rent of Rs 15,000 for temporary management until the land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) are distributed to the actual squatters.

This was informed by government representatives in the meeting of the State Administration and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Thursday. According to committee chairman Hari Dhakal, ministers and officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration presented the progress report on the management of squatters so far and informed about the plan.

Currently, ‘screening’ is being done to identify the landless people in various holding centers in Kathmandu and the government aims to distribute Lalpurja through ‘fast track’ as soon as the process is completed. The Ministry of Urban Development has informed the committee that the necessary resources have been ensured for this purpose.

In addition, the government claims that school buses have been arranged for the education of children from squatter families in the holding center and proper arrangements have been made for the nutrition of pregnant women.

Chairman Dhakal said, ‘In the context of Kathmandu, screening of landless people in the holding center is being done.’ The government is prepared to provide them with a monthly house rent of 15,000 rupees until they receive the land title deeds, and information has been received that the resources have been ensured for this.’

The parliamentary committee has also decided to conduct on-site monitoring to understand the details presented by the government and the actual status of the work progress.
