Hearing the writ petition filed by Roshni Nepali, a joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nripadhwaj Niraula ordered the Attorney General to be informed of the discussion.
Nepali, who initially approached the Patan High Court, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court after the interim order was quashed. On April 15, the Patan High Court quashed the short-term interim order issued earlier, paving the way for the film's release.
Earlier, a single bench of Justice Prakash Dhungana had issued a short-term interim order along with a show-cause order. The film, directed by Yama Thapa, was in preparation for screening since April 18. The film, produced by Shatkon Arts, is based on the story of the struggle of women from the Badi community.
The court had earlier ordered the government to act in accordance with the constitution and prevailing laws, as screening films containing words and images that hurt the dignity, honor, reputation, and self-respect of people of the community and incite hatred or hostility towards anyone would be against the constitution of Nepal, and had also issued a short-term order to do the same in the writ petition filed by Lali Bazaar.
