Prime Minister Balendra Shah has appointed Minister for Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary as the chairperson of the National Nature Conservation Fund.

Shah has given the responsibility of chairperson of the fund to Minister Chaudhary, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, exercising the authority granted by the National Nature Conservation Fund Act, 2039 BS.

According to Prime Minister Shah's press and research expert Deepa Dahal, as per the provisions of the act, there is a legal provision that the Prime Minister will be the custodian of the fund and the custodian will appoint the chairperson. Exercising the same authority, the Prime Minister has appointed Minister Chaudhary as the chairperson. In the past, it was customary to appoint the Forest Minister as the chairperson of the fund with the aim of not burdening the state with additional financial expenses. Earlier, Adarsh Kumar Shrestha was the chairperson of the fund.
