The Supreme Court has issued an interim order on a writ petition filed against the government's decision to remove squatters' settlements, asking it to follow due process of law in displacing squatters and unorganized settlers from their places of residence and managing them elsewhere.

A bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityanand Pandey issued the interim order in the name of the government on Friday. The order states, 'In view of the irreparable damage to education, health, housing and the humanitarian crisis that may arise if squatters and unorganized settlers are removed from their places of residence and managed elsewhere without following due process of law...'

The Supreme Court has issued such an order on a writ petition filed by Gopal Ranpaheli, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and Majid Ansari, who have been living in the squatters' settlement.

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order saying that the National Human Rights Commission has also raised the issue of the basic needs of the squatters not being met during the debate and has asked them to take more effective action to ensure the provision of basic needs. The Supreme Court has ordered the government to provide housing, education, health, and food to the displaced. The court has also asked to schedule a hearing within 15 days of the submission of the written response for the verdict in this case.
