Korea released 37 students arrested for working without a work permit on Thursday. Investigations are ongoing against five students. They were arrested in Daegu, Korea on Tuesday.
‘Students are not allowed to work freely in Korea. 42 students were arrested while returning from work,’ said Zenim Adhikari, Second Secretary of the Nepali Embassy in Seoul, Korea, to Ikantipur. ‘37 students have been released.’
The students, who were studying at four universities, were working as delivery workers. This is the first time that a large number of Nepali students have been arrested in Korea at once. The official said that they were released after paying a fine of about two hundred thousand rupees. In Korea, students will be allowed to work only in electronics stores and restaurants for a certain number of hours.
The number of Nepali students studying in Korea at all levels is 19,581.
