The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has returned 622 vehicles from employees and officials who were illegally accessing government vehicles.

The government has returned 622 vehicles as a step taken by the government to end the years of exploitation of the limited resources and means of the state and the administrative chaos.

The office has stated that it has so far returned government vehicles from various ministries, their subordinate bodies and constitutional commissions. A preliminary investigation conducted by the Prime Minister's Secretariat found that even though there is a legal provision that only gazetted first class or above officials are entitled to government vehicle facilities, even lower-level employees and officials are using four-wheeled government vehicles.

During the investigation, detailed details of the vehicles being used by employees and officials of all government bodies were sought. Based on the data received, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers had issued a circular on 10 Baisakh 083 to all ministries, their subordinate bodies and constitutional commissions, directing them to immediately return all vehicles being used by employees and officials at levels that are not required to provide vehicles under the prevailing law. Based on the same directive, the vehicles being used against the law have been returned.

In the coming days, no employee or official will be allowed to use government vehicles individually except as specified by law. However, the office says that employees and officials at all levels will be allowed to use government vehicles collectively in special or inconvenient circumstances.
