The Supreme Court has also summoned the government for discussion on the writ petition filed against the government's decision to vacate the squatter settlements along the banks of the Bagmati River.

The bench of Justice Shantisinh Thapa has asked it to submit a written response along with the reasons for the eviction of the squatters. Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Koiral said that the Supreme Court has fixed a date for April 22 to appear for a debate on whether or not to issue an interim order.

The Supreme Court made this order on Friday while hearing the first writ petition filed by Gopal Ranpaheli, Gen-G leaders Arnab Chaudhary, Ojaswi Bhattarai, Tanuja Pandey, Majid Ansari, Prajwal Bikram Rana, Kavita Rai, and Bikash Kumar Gupta.

They had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the government stop the forcible eviction of any landless or squatter from the squatter settlements in Thapathali, Manohara, Sinnamangal in Kathmandu or any other place along the river banks across the country.

Similarly, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi filed a new writ petition on Monday. He has also demanded proper management of the squatters. The filing of the writ petition has been scheduled for Tuesday.
