Additional Inspector General (AIG) of the Armed Police Force (APF) Narayan Dutta Poudel has been promoted to Inspector General (IGP). The Cabinet meeting held on Monday promoted Poudel, who is currently the head of the Administration and Human Resources Department, to the position of Inspector General.
Inspector General Raju Aryal is going on compulsory retirement from 18 Baisakh after completing his 4-year term. After that, AIG Poudel has been promoted to the vacant leadership. Poudel is the current IGP Aryal's nephew. He joined the service as an inspector of the Nepal Police in Chaitra 2054 and was transferred to the Armed Police Force in 2057 with the formation of the Armed Police Force. With this, Poudel has reached the leadership of the Armed Police Force as the 13th Inspector General. He will take over the leadership from 18 Baisakh.
Along with him, another AIG Banshiraj Dahal was also in the competition for the leadership. However, Poudel, who became AIG 5 months before Dahal, was appointed IGP by the Council of Ministers. Poudel was promoted to AIG on 6 Jestha 2079. With the promotion, he will remain in leadership until 18 Chaitra 2084, while the current 30-year term limit remains. Another competitor, Dahal, became AIG on 28 Asoj of the same year.
The commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki had recommended departmental action against the newly appointed IGP Poudel regarding the incidents of the Gen-G movement on 23 and 24 Bhadra. However, the government has appointed Poudel as the leader, maintaining 'seniority' in the organization.
