The Department of Mines and Geology has projected that there are about 100 million metric tons of iron ore in Dhaubadi, Hupsekot Rural Municipality-5, Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta).

Through various stages of study and research conducted by the experts of the department, an iron ore ‘billet’ has been found in an area of about 10 kilometers from the local Namjakot to Dhaubadi area. The ‘Dhaubadi Iron Company Limited’ has been established with the aim of commercial production of iron. The company has stated that it is conducting further research on the iron reserves.

The iron mine, spread over an area of about 41 square kilometers, has the capacity to produce 1,500 tons of iron per day for 60 years, informed Shailesh Kumar Thapa, director of the company. Stating that the project can produce 500,000 tons of iron products annually, he said that it will replace about 25 percent of the country’s demand for imports.

Director Thapa said that an environmental impact assessment is being conducted to assess the impact on the environment after the operation of the mine. He also informed that the work on the detailed project report will begin soon.

Currently, infrastructure and road upgrading are being done to reach the mine. The operation of the mine is expected to develop the steel industry and create a large number of jobs and import iron. Another director of the office, Dilip Kumar Jha, said that the operation of the mine will help the country achieve prosperity by mobilizing domestic capital within the country.
