The demolition of illegally constructed houses and huts has begun in the Sukumbasi settlement on the banks of the Manohara River here.
The demolition of the structures has begun by mobilizing 1,300 Nepal Police and 600 Armed Police deployed from Bhaktapur to the settlement since this morning, informed the Chief of the District Police Range and Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Khadka.
According to him, the residents of the settlement said that they would demolish their houses and huts themselves, and time was given until 9:00 am. After that, the demolition of the houses and huts began after a team with a dozer from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City arrived.
Superintendent of Police Khadka said, "Most of the houses and huts here have been moved and emptied, and then the demolition has begun."
There are 777 houses and huts in this settlement. Earlier, seven large pucca houses were demolished here on Saturday evening. During that, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police were obstructed. Some Sukumbasi attacked 22 security personnel were injured in the incident.
