More than 30,000 Nepalis have returned home from the region since the conflict erupted in West Asia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press conference on Friday that more than 30,000 Nepalis who went abroad for work, including employment, have returned home after the war between the United States and Iran escalated tensions in the region.
According to the ministry, those citizens returned home due to the immediate situation and on leave. Of these, 21,000 Nepalis returned from Qatar, Ramkaji Khadka, head of the ministry's Asia, West Asia and Africa Division, informed. Similarly, he said that 87,819 people from the region have registered their status on the online portal launched by the ministry's Consular Services Department after the conflict.
Initiatives are being taken to release Nepali citizen Amrit Jha, who was arrested with a ship in Iran's Hormuz region during the conflict. The ministry has stated that he will be released soon.
Similarly, two out of 10 Nepali citizens who are in Iran for work are preparing to return home, while the remaining eight are currently in Iran after feeling safe, said Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri. The Ministry stated that it is working through an emergency response group for the safety and necessary convenience of Nepali citizens in the region.
At the press conference, Spokesperson Chhetri stated that an invitation has been received from the Indian government for Prime Minister Balendra Shah's visit to India and initial preparations for the visit are underway. Similarly, he stated that the work of distributing passports is currently going smoothly and said that coordination is being done with the Postal Department to arrange for people to go to their homes and deliver passports.
