The Indian government has shown concern over Nepal's strict measures at the border, prohibiting the import of goods worth more than Rs 100 from India.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has said that it is in talks with the Nepal government on this issue. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Indian government is aware of the latest activities taking place in the border area. 'We have seen some reports. It is an old provision regarding customs duty. Nepal is now trying to implement it,' he said at a regular press conference organized at the ministry. 'Our understanding is that Nepal's step is a step taken to control informal trade and smuggling. It does not apply to goods being taken from India to Nepal for personal household purposes.'

He also added that a statement given by a senior Nepali official said that such steps would not be taken against goods taken for personal and household purposes.

Nepal Police Chief of Madhesh Province, DIG Govinda Thapaliya, has given a video message asking the general public not to stop people bringing goods for household purposes. Responding to a question asked by a journalist, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jaisawal informed that discussions are underway with the Nepali government on this issue.
