Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has paid a courtesy call on United States Assistant Secretary of State Sameer Paul Kapur.
In the meeting held at the Ministry of Finance today, they discussed areas of potential partnership, investment promotion and bilateral cooperation between the government formed in Nepal after the recently concluded elections, the ministry said.
In the discussion, Finance Minister Wagle mentioned that the government's main priorities are good governance, economic reform and quality physical infrastructure construction. He said that the government's priority is to create an environment for economic reform and investment by repealing old unnecessary laws and enacting new laws.
He said on the occasion that investment is expected from American investors and non-resident Nepali investors, especially in the sectors of tourism, clean energy and information technology. US Assistant Secretary of State Kapur expressed confidence that the historical relations between Nepal and the United States will further strengthen in the coming days. The US President and the American people have been positively observing the reform program undertaken by the current government formed after the recent peaceful elections.
The Assistant Secretary of State emphasized that both countries can benefit from successful trade relations and partnerships with organizations such as the US International Finance Corporation.
The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary Dr. Ghanshyam Upadhyay, officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and US Ambassador to Nepal Scott Arbom, along with officials from the US Embassy.
