Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development and Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary has met with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director for Nepal Arnaud Cauchois.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Minister Chaudhary's secretariat stated that they discussed issues such as development of the agricultural sector, expansion of investment, strengthening cooperation, etc.
On the occasion, Minister Chaudhary said that from now on, programs will not be held in five-star hotels with the aim of reducing administrative costs in investment projects of donor agencies. She emphasized that the amount should be invested in the targeted communities and areas. She praised ADB's continuous support for agricultural modernization, strengthening of the rural economy, and overall economic and social development.
Discussions were held on the issues of high-value agricultural crop and fruit development projects currently underway. Although the achievements obtained from such programs are positive, the ministry stated that the discussions were held on the issue of resolving policy and procedural challenges seen during implementation.
Minister Chaudhary also said that the government is committed to making project implementation more effective and faster by solving problems related to seed and nursery management.
Minister Chaudhary mentioned that the ministry has positively considered the Nepal Green and Resilient Financial Facility proposed by ADB.
The discussion focused on expanding investment in climate-friendly agriculture, small and medium agri-enterprises, and innovation. Similarly, the ministry stated that discussions were held on groundwater recharge (the natural or artificial process by which rain or surface water is absorbed underground and reaches the ground and replenishes underground aquifers), research, and increasing private sector involvement.
