The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has urged the Home Administration and local levels to take legal action against private schools that charge fees against the norms.
After it was found that some institutional schools were enrolling students before the start of the academic session and charging fees higher than the approved norms, in violation of the prevailing law and the Supreme Court order, the Ministry of Education had issued instructions on 22 Chaitra to rectify the matter.
In the context of complaints that some institutional schools were still charging fees against the law, the Ministry has again instructed all concerned to refund the illegally collected fees to the students in accordance with Section 166 (6) of the Education Act (as amended), 2028.
'If any school is found to have acted contrary to this instruction, further action is required as per the provisions of Section 166 (7) of the same Act and other prevailing laws, if necessary, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the concerned District Administration Offices and local levels are requested to coordinate accordingly,' said a statement issued by the Ministry of Education Spokesperson Shiva Kumar Sapkota.
The ministry has also informed that a help desk has been set up at the Education and Human Resource Development Center for the purpose of reporting and facilitating student fee-related recommendations and complaints.
