Former Prime Minister and outgoing Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that there has been misleading and false propaganda about his family regarding property.
He made this statement public on social media on Wednesday evening. 'I have come to know from the media that an investigation into money laundering has been launched against me and my family,' he wrote, 'I would like to inform you that there has been misleading and false propaganda about property.'
The Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Deuba and his wife Arju Rana on Tuesday based on a letter from the Money Laundering Investigation Department. With this, the Deuba couple has been placed on the absconding list. An investigation into money laundering was underway against the Deuba couple. It is against this backdrop that Deuba made his statement public on social media. In which he revealed that he was abroad for medical treatment and the name of the country was not disclosed.
According to home sources, an arrest warrant has been issued against the Deuba couple to issue a red notice. A red notice is issued through Interpol to arrest a person abroad and bring him to Nepal. The first formal step is to issue an arrest warrant.
On Facebook, Deuba also stated that he had submitted the true details of his assets to the relevant government agency while he was in public office. Stating that he has struggled his entire life for the establishment of a democratic governance system in the country, the rule of law, an independent judiciary, transparency and the belief that the organs of the state should be independent and competent, Deuba said that his life is an open book.
Deuba mentioned that the reality will unfold over time and wrote, 'We are currently abroad for health treatment and I would like to inform you that the treatment is still ongoing. The reality will unfold over time. I appeal to everyone not to be misled by exaggerated and publicized details.'
