It is now possible to send goods abroad and release goods imported from abroad through the post office even on public holidays.

Although the Goswara Post Office, Dillibazaar, had previously been providing services on public holidays, there used to be problems in customs clearance when the customs office and bank located there were not open. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology also showed interest after complaints began to be received about the service being affected due to lack of inter-agency coordination. Following the instructions of Communications Minister Bikram Timilsina, the Department of Postal Services has started the process of coordinating with the Customs Department to make arrangements to provide services easily on public holidays.

'The Goswara Post Office has been providing services on public holidays for postal services or international courier services. However, there was a problem in customs clearance when the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office branch located there did not open on public holidays,' said Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, Director General of the Department of Postal Services. 'We have already informed the Customs Department verbally and through correspondence to resolve this problem.'

Director General of the Customs Department Shyam Prasad Bhandari also said that arrangements are being made to operate the customs branch at the Goswara Post Office even on public holidays. Similarly, preparations have been made to keep the bank branch there open for revenue payment. Initiatives are being taken to keep the branch of the Rastriya Banijya Bank open on public holidays too.

In the month of Falgun alone, more than 19,200 bundles, parcels, small packets, ordinary letters, registered letters, book posts and other items came from abroad from the Goswara Post Office in Dillibazaar. Similarly, the number of such items exported is around 11,700. The office has stated that around 2.9 million 4 thousand customs revenue has been collected from this. Operating the office on public holidays is expected to not only provide easy services to the citizens but also have a positive impact on both the business and results of the office.
